E-module 1:MINDSET
MindSET, is an online introduction to mental health. The information on the website is for people who have no previous training in mental health. It will give you a broad overview of the area of mental health improvement from promoting positive mental health to recovery from mental health problems.
Many myths, misconceptions and misunderstandings about mental health exist within our society. MindSET hopes to begin to challenge these myths, misconceptions and misunderstandings so that we can develop a shared understanding of mental health that is based on fact not fiction.
There are six sections to progress through, each with multiple-choice questions at the end. Once you have completed a section you can stop and save your work and return to the website at another time. Once you have completed all six sections you will be awarded a certificate of completion. www.northlanmindset.org.uk
E-modulue 2:Mentally Healthy Workplace
Mentally Healthy Workplace Online Training has been developed by the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives. The Mentally Healthy Workplace eLearning Course is specifically targeted at employees looking at mental health & wellbeing in a workplace setting. Instructions on how to register with NHS Scotland’s Virtual Learning Environment can be found at www.healthscotland.com/uploads/documents/15383-Instructions%20for%20logging%20onto%20the%20MHW%20online%20course.pdf
Once registered, search the course list (or browse the A – Z Course/Networks) and select Mentally Healthy Workplace Online Training. Upon completion, one might consider following this up with face-to-face training on mental health and wellbeing. The course ‘Understanding Mental Health’ is a programme that, using the blended learning approach, builds on the learning of this course.
Face to Face Training:Understanding Mental Health
The Understanding Mental Health half day course complements the MINDSET and Mentally Healthy Workplace online courses. Understanding Mental Health will provide participants with valuable tools to deal with issues they may encounter in their professional and personal lives and reinforce learning, through discussion, questions and exchange of ideas and exploration of practical issues. Central to all aspects of this course is the expertise and personal narratives of people in recovery with lived experience of mental health issues.
Who is the training for?
The training is aimed at people who may not normally have access to any mental health training. It is not just health professionals, support workers and care staff who will work with people with mental health problems. Receptionists, concierge staff, shop assistants, trades people, call centre staff, librarians etc, will often come into contact with someone with a mental health problem and will benefit from training. At least 1 in 4 people will develop a mental health problem at some point in their lives, therefore we are likely to come into contact with someone with a mental health problem on a regular basis.

Thorough evaluation of the training has highlighted a significant impact on participant’s knowledge, beliefs and behaviour, with the service user narratives being particularly valuable.
