2014 COMMUNITIES PROGRAMME
With less than 1,000 days to go before the 2014 Commonwealth Games, communities across the country are being encouraged to apply for Lottery funding to create their own sporting legacy.
Schools, sports clubs, voluntary and community organisations, and community councils can apply for grants of between £300 and £2,000 through the 2014 Communities programme. Through the programme BIG hopes to encourage more people to take part in sport or physical activity; to increase the numbers of those volunteering in sport or physical activity; and to bring communities together through sport and volunteering. Priority will be given to projects that target low participation groups such as women & girls, people who are disabled, people over 50 years of age, people under 25 years of age and people from black and minority ethnic communities.
Previous projects supported through the programme include:
A grant of £1,000 to the 29th Glasgow (1st Newlands) Scout Group to run a series of camps for young people aged 8-18, which will offer an introduction to a variety of sporting and adventure activities; and a grant of £810 to Annette Street Primary School to buy play equipment to encourage young children to become more physically active during break times. Applications can be submitted at any time.
